Counselling
Counselling is that general term used to describe talking therapies, that is talking with a professionally trained person about your issues or problems of an emotional nature. It is not advice giving, but it is support for when you are facing an emotionally difficult time and you need a trained professional who is not your GP or Dr, but has some professional, clinical knowledge and experience as a source to help you at a time of need.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
Cognitive Behavioural therapy (CBT) is a talking therapy that can help you manage your problems by changing the way you think and behave. We can use this approach with any anxiety and/or feelings of depression, you may have as part of the process of therapy.
Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy like CBT is a talking therapy. I usually take this approach initially to help uncover any unconscious processes, that clients may be experiencing. Especially if you are dealing with feeling angry all the time, struggling with feeling down all the time (depression) a life crisis of things from your past - sexual abuse, abandonment, your own or parents divorce.
My Approach
I work with individuals, couples, and groups. I also work with organisations to develop staff morale, through group work and individual sessions. I specialise in trauma, bereavement, work place issues, racism and sexual identity. I also work with Children and Adolescents having worked in primary schools and colleges. Together with you, I use a ranges of therapeutic techniques from Psychology, Person-Centred counselling my initial training, Cognitive Behavioural Threapy (CBT), Mindfulness and Gestalt Therapy.
